{Loving A Summer Childhood session……} Lake City, FL Family Photographer | Lake City, FL Photographer

Last Thursday I had a wonderful session (despite the rain) with 2 fun, all boy boys. Their mom brought some AWESOME props she borrow from a neighbor (SO wish my neighbors had props like these!). The lighting, boys & props all made for a session that reminded me of summers long ago. Back when kids played outside all summer (no video games, phones, computers, TV, etc….)……….I couldn’t help but love it all. Summer sun haze is perfection. <3

Thank you O’Steen family for coming to see me despite the rain!

Timelines……..if you can’t beat it, join it! ~ Lake City, FL Photographer | Lake City, FL Family Photographer

Well, we all had to do it. They forced us. We had to confirm to Timeline…..by now many of you have already decided if you love or hate it. Maybe even explored some of the features (like adding life events to your Timeline)  & messed with your profile photos. But, what about making it more stylish? More fun? More you?

Well, now all FULL sessions & Newborn sessions get a FREE FB Timeline photo designed with photos from their session. A stylish & fun way to showcase your photos!

In my free time (I laugh as I type that), I am designing templates, but wanted to share a few with you now!

{Double the birthday, double the fun! } Lake City, FL Family Photographer | Lake City, FL Child Portrait Photographer

Last Thursday, I got to do a birthday shoot for a couple of cuties! Twins? No. Sisters, born 1 year & 2 weeks apart (so, as most mom’s know, that’s as close as you can get to twins without the real thing!) Dancing, chalkboards & yes, even a pout, but a wonderful session!

Thank you Brown Family!

{A Giveaway I CANNOT pass up! So I will blog…. }

So, I have NEVER done a blog post to try & win a giveaway. Yes, they are often extra points, but I have never done it. BUT, there’s a time when something is too good not to do everything you can to win. This is that time.

See, an AMAZING photographer I have been following for awhile (& wanted to do an online mentoring with as I knew in person was out of my price range right now) started a giveaway. THE giveaway. The GIVEAWAY of ALL giveaways! Seriously. Crave Photography is doing a giveaway for an ALL EXPENSE PAID, in person, mentoring. That’s right, flight, hotel, food, EVERYTHING. That alone would be enough to make me shout from the roof tops & post it to you tube if I thought it would help me win. But in addition to that, she’s giving away a 50mm 1.4 lens. AMAZING, perfect for all types of photography, lens. I know I’m using the word AMAZING alot, but I can’t express how much I want this.

If you want, check her out on Facebook as well. You will look at her photos & know why I want to mentor with you. You can see within seconds, what I would be able to produce for my clients if I won.  My photography would be taken to a whole other level. I dream of this. It would be a huge blessing & well timed as yesterday I was looking at my current work & thinking of how to improve it. It would be a blessing as I am not a “high priced” photographer with a huge mentoring budget.

That’s it. My rave & blogged prayer that I win. :-)  & since this is a photography blog I will post a photo…..(of my own, not stealing her work……….)

{Growing is learning…..} Lake City, FL Photographer | Lake City, FL Family Photography

As time goes on I learn. We all learn. Especially if it’s about a subject we like or LOVE. I love photography. I love capturing families, children, newborns for my clients so they can always remember that moment. That time, before it slipped away.

Every once in awhile I see an old photo I did & think, “what was I thinking??”. As how I do things now, is not how I did then. I have learned, improved, honed my craft. Which helps me provide higher quality photos. I realize, not everyone can tell the difference between one smiling photo of their kid & another (as we all love our kids), so I wanted to share how I have grown. Where I started til now (& maybe one in the middle).  Continually improving, so I can offer the highest quality, timeless photos you can treasure forever. Not a photo you will look back on & think “wow, that was done in 2005…look at that  ”(insert trendy editing technique possible in Photoshop &/or PicNic)”. A photo instead, that yes your child was then 2 & is now 12 is older, but timeless in the color, location, everything (excluding clothes because hey, trends change, lol). :-)

**NOTE: I LOVED these photos when I took them. There are still parts of them I love (namely the people in them), but technically (photographer speaking) there are some things I did wrong. They were the best I was capable of at that time. I still thank & love these families for allowing me to capture them & their children. This is a comparison MY skill only in both knowing how to use my camera & editing (which when knowing how to use your camera there’s a lot less editing). <3 <3

Hopefully next year, I will be able to say I’ve grown even more. To have even more before/afters to share. As I want to continue growing, learning. If not improving at least learning new techniques. So, I can continue to provide high quality photography to all my clients…..even if I am not the most expensive photographer out there.

Thank you all!

{A Country Cowgirl Session…} Lake City, FL Photographer | Lake City, FL Child Portraits | Lake City, FL Family Photographer

Wednesday night I met up with a couple of cuties at one of my fave spots for easy mini sessions with all things I love. Tall grass, trees, great lighting……….(though I could do without the bugs & thorns).  Mom wanted a cowgirl kind of session to go along with the oldest’s birthday theme. I think the session turned out perfect in the end with a country cowgirl theme the whole way through. Plus, these girls did great for the camera!

Thank you B Family for letting me capture your little beauties!!

{All Children Are Beautiful…….} Lake City, FL Photographer

So, originally my blog was going to be about something to do with my girls, focusing on them, etc…… But today I had the opportunity to take photos for a VPK graduation (photos of the cuties in their cap & gowns). As always, I chat it up with the kids as I take their photos. Try & make them more comfortable, smile, etc….. One little girl as I was lifting her to put her where I wanted her to sit said, “Sorry I’m heavy. It’s because I’m big.”

Now this little girl isn’t yet 5. She’s not obese or anything by any means. She’s a child. In my belief all children are beautiful. I believe what God said, “You are beautifully & wonderfully made” & that it applies to everyone. I try & teach my girls, we are all different & that doesn’t make anyone better than any one else, etc… We talk about differences, relate them to people we know, etc…

A few minutes later, I was adjusting her cap & she said, “it won’t fit because of my big turtle head.” I said, “your head isn’t big, these hats don’t like to fit right all the time” (which was true as many children had issues). She told me her mom had told her she had a big head. Now, do I think this mom was trying to be mean? No. Not at all. I think often we say things to our children (& other people), not meaning any harm or to hurt them. We all make mistakes. Say things jokingly or out of frustration that we don’t realize our children are hearing & taking to heart. But they do hear. They listen when we think they are not & we are shaping how they feel about themselves. I am not perfect on this.  I myself call my children “trouble” & such (I am trying to work on that). I do make a point to tell my girls how beautiful they are. How smart they are, etc… I think all parents should be telling there children these things, every day.

In this society, where so much is placed on appearance. Where pre-teens are battling anorexia, where much of the world wants us to believe unless you are a size 2 or smaller you are not beautiful, we have to work extra hard to make sure our children know they are beautiful. Just the way they are.  Boys & girls need to learn that we are ok as we are. However God made us. It’s great to want to be healthy, exercise take care of our bodies! We should teach our children the importance of exercise & eating well to take care of ourselves. BUT we should do it to keep us healthy, not because we are trying to please the world.

{Sweet Lorelei………} Lake City, FL Newborn Photographer | Lake City, FL Photographer

Last Friday a wonderful family came to visit bringing their newest addition. A precious girl (who like my youngest was 9lbs. 2 oz. at birth) who ROCKED the posing! She was wonderful! Her big sister got to be tormented by my two, but in the end everyone had a good time. :-)

Thank you so much S Family for allowing me to capture your beautiful family!
